Class Descriptions

Our focus at Riverside remains on epee instruction and development. As such, all our group classes are offered in epee only.

Please Contact Us if you would like to be added to our email list.

Vaccination Requirement

For all activities, including classes, proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all participants and spectators. Please see the most recent version of our COVID-19 Era Policies and Procedures document, available on our home page.

Introductory Courses

Our introductory course assumes no prior knowledge about fencing, and is the ideal starting point for people new to the sport.

Fencers will gain a basic understanding of movement, tactics, rules, and etiquette of the sport of fencing. More importantly, fencers will have a very good idea of what fencing at Riverside is like, and whether they wish to continue training here.

The course consists of six class meetings. Students may repeat the course if they choose or if recommended by the coach before advancing to the group classes. This rich course features classes that build on each other sequentially. Should a student miss a class, they may need to make up the material in order to rejoin the class. Additional fees apply for make-up lessons.

Group Instructional Classes

The goal of the group instructional classes is to teach the fencers a broad base of foundational skills and understanding that they can build upon with further private training and practice. Group instructional classes may have participants at various levels of skill and experience. We foster a culture of mutual learning in the classes. Each group instructional class meeting consists of coach-led footwork and blade work segments, and (usually) includes time to practice the skills learned in class through fencing with classmates.

This class is designed to teach and to develop fencers whether they are looking to improve their competitive skills and results, or they are more recreationally minded. Having fun, learning, and honing one's competitive skills are complementary activities. Each helps in developing fencing skill and in developing friendships and community. Students are grouped by age, size, experience, etc. as appropriate within each activity.

Membership Requirements

See https://home.riversidefencingclub.com/membership for more details about membership.

Class Fees (2022-2023): $230.00 (individual); $115.00 (family discount applied)

Please note that the membership fees are separate from the class fees.

Class rates are flat rates per session. Exception: the Nov-Dec flat rate is $200.00 (individual)/$100.00 (family discount applied) because that session is shorter.

Families that have two or more fencers enrolled in concurrent classes will pay the full price of the highest cost class; discounted rates will apply to subsequent classes.

Registration

Registration for Group Classes is done through email directly to existing members. If you are interested in our Group Classes and are not yet a Riverside Fencing Club fencer, please contact us.
